Nuchal Translucency Screening

Screening is a combination of a series of tests that are performed between weeks 10 to 13 6 days of gestation that help us to classify risk of genetic diseases (such as Down syndrome) and the risk of preeclampsia in pregnancy.

That must be done between week 11 and 13 6. It is recommended that it be performed, hopefully between 12 and 13 weeks, because it facilitates the measurement and also allows an ultrasound to assess the fetal parts. This ultrasound should be performed by suitably trained and certified professionals so that a reliable estimate of the patient's risk is made.

Screening Integration

It is performed in a Software approved by the London Fetal Medicine Foundation by entering the patient's data with her risk factors, laboratory measurements and ultrasound measurements. This will yield a risk estimate for the physician's interpretation.

Post test counseling

The doctor will personally deliver the integrated screening report, conducting counseling based on the risk approach and, according to this, will define the need or not to carry out additional studies or implement some preventive measure.

What is integrated screening?

Es la combinación de una serie de pruebas que deberían ser realizadas a todas las mujeres en embarazo entre las semanas 11 y 13 con 6 días que ayudan detectar el riesgo de enfermedades genéticas, algunas malformaciones,enfermedad cardiaca del bebe y de preeclampsia. Estas pruebas incluyen sustancias que son producidas por la placenta que se miden en una muestra de sangre de la mamá y una ecografía realizada por personal entrenado y certificado donde se mide una parte de la nuca del bebe y se observa la presencia del hueso de la nariz así como otros hallazgos que pueden detectar el mayor o menor riesgo de las enfermedades descritas.
Why is integrated screening done until week 13 6 days?

Después de la semana 13 +6 días la medición ecográfica de los marcadores es más difícil por los movimientos del bebé. De igual manera disminuye la validez de los resultados.
UNO: Consejería preprueba donde el médico explica claramente a la paciente el alcance del Tamizaje, su importancia y el riesgo antes de las pruebas. Este puede ser realizado en O&G o por el médico tratante de la paciente quien la refiere.

Can I bring the ultrasound that was done in another institution?

Si. Siempre y cuando el médico que realizó el ultrasonido se encuentre certificado por la Fundación de Medicina Fetal. En su defecto debe traer las fotografías del ultrasonido y en nuestra unidad se definirá la necesidad o no de repetir la ecografía.
